You clipped two rear feet onto a Logitech MX Keys, MX Keys S, or MX Keys Mini, the 15° slope looked right, and then the whole keyboard crept forward on the first fast paragraph. That is a real complaint, including on Amazon, and it is not a mystery once you look at what KeyRiser actually is: two matte-black PLA pieces that clip to the rear edge. There is no rubberized TPU pad on the desk side. Grip depends on how firmly the feet clip and on the surface under them.

Why a raised MX Keys can walk
A flat MX Keys has a large, slightly grippy underside on the desk. When you add rear lift, two things change at once:
- Contact area with the desk shrinks. Weight now sits on the two PLA feet at the back plus a thinner front edge.
- Typing force gets a forward component. Each keystroke on a slope can nudge the board toward you or away from you, depending on how you strike.
PLA is rigid and light — the site lists about 3 g per piece — which is good for staying on the keyboard and bad for magically sticking to polished glass. The FAQ already says some reviewers reported shift, and that grip depends on the desk surface and how firmly the feet clip. Support’s first troubleshooting line for sliding is the same: seat the keyboard in the grooves and keep the contact faces clean.
If the feet are not fully clipped, the keyboard can also rock. Rocking feels like sliding even when the board has not traveled an inch. Reseat both feet before you blame the desk.
Surfaces that cause most tickets
Glass desks
Glass is the worst common case: hard, slick, and reflective enough that you see every millimetre of creep. A two-piece PLA riser will not grow rubber by wishing. Put a thin, high-friction desk mat under the keyboard zone, or use a larger felt/cloth mat that covers both keyboard and mouse. Do not put a mouse pad on KeyRiser — it is not a platform. The FAQ is explicit: use a separate mouse pad on the desk.
High-gloss laminate and lacquer
Same physics as glass, slightly more micro-texture. A mat still wins. Cleaning polish residue off the laminate (and off the PLA) often helps more than people expect.
Standing-desk converters and metal trays
Many converters have a painted metal or slick MDF keyboard deck. When you type standing, you also tend to strike harder. Combine that with a raised rear edge and the board walks. Stabilize the surface first, then the feet. Height still matters: if the converter is too high, you will lean into the keys. That is a standing desk problem, not a glue problem.
Felt, wool, and thick foam mats
Soft mats can swallow the small PLA feet so the keyboard sags or twists. If the feet sink, the 15° angle is no longer 15°. Use a firmer mat, or place a thin hard sheet (a cut desk pad, not a book stack) under the two feet only. DIY props under the keyboard itself are how people un-do a model-specific fit.
Oily or dusty PLA
Skin oil on the clip faces makes the keyboard feel loose on the chassis. Dust on the desk face of the feet reduces friction. Wipe PLA with a soft damp cloth. Avoid heat, solvents, and abrasives — that is the maintenance line on the FAQ.
What not to do
These “fixes” show up in forums. Skip them.
- Glue, tape, or adhesive pads on KeyRiser. The product is tool-free and residue-free on purpose. Glue turns a reversible clip into a damaged keyboard and a non-returnable accessory.
- Stacking two KeyRiser pairs for more angle. The FAQ says no. Stacking is unstable.
- Rubber bands around the chassis. They mark the plastic and shift the clip geometry.
- Using KeyRiser on a keyboard that is not MX Keys, MX Keys S, or MX Keys Mini. Wrong-shape feet rock, then slide. Check compatibility before another experiment.
- Blaming Bluetooth. PLA does not affect radio. Sliding is mechanical.
If the listing you bought does not stay put after the checks below, use Amazon’s return path for that order. That is the honest exit, and it is how the product is sold.
A 10-minute stability checklist
Work in order. Stop when the keyboard stays put through a timed email.
- Confirm the model. Underside label or Bluetooth name must be Logitech MX Keys, MX Keys S, or MX Keys Mini.
- Reseat both feet. Clip until each foot is flush on the rear edge. Look from the side: both rears should sit at the same height.
- Clean contact faces. Damp cloth on PLA and on the desk patch. Dry fully.
- Type a stress test. One minute of your normal speed. Watch a mark on the desk (a bit of washi on the glass, then remove it).
- Change the surface, not the angle. Add a thin high-friction mat under the keyboard. Keep the mouse on the desk or on the same mat, not on the feet.
- Check desk height. Elbows near 90–110°, shoulders down. CCOHS wants wrists in line with the forearms. If you are reaching up to a high converter, lower the surface; extra downward force makes any light keyboard walk.
- Still moving? Return via Amazon. Do not modify the feet.
Most glass-desk cases die at step 5. Most “it wobbles” cases die at step 2.
KeyRiser vs DIY wedges on slick desks
A book or a foam wedge has even less defined contact than two modeled feet. It can look stable until you type. Model-specific clips at least lock to the chassis so the keyboard and the feet move as one. On glass, that whole assembly can still translate — which is why the mat is the desk-side half of the system.
Generic full-width silicone stands sometimes grip glass better and fit the MX Keys worse. You then trade slide for rock. If you need the MX Keys family fit, keep the clip-on pair and fix the surface. Mini versus full-size: does weight help?
Full-size MX Keys and MX Keys S are heavier than Mini. Extra mass can reduce how far the board travels per keystroke, but it does not create rubber. Standing, hybrid, and hot desks
- Sit-stand. Every height change is a chance to leave the keyboard on a slick converter. After you raise the desk, repeat the one-minute type test. Micro-adjust height so you are not leaning on the keys (standing desk wrist pain).

When sliding is actually a fit problem
If one rear corner is high, or the keyboard pivots around a single foot, it is not a glass problem. It is a clip problem or a wrong keyboard.

A note on heat, bags, and PLA
PLA softens if you cook it. The specifications page lists an operating band that starts at 0°C and tops out at 60°C. A sun-facing window, a closed car, or a laptop that dumps heat into a backpack pocket is a better way to warp a clip than a year of typing. If a foot no longer matches the rear edge after a hot commute, stop forcing it and use Amazon’s return or replacement path.
The two pieces are light enough to leave clipped on Mini in a sleeve. If they catch on fabric, unclip them and drop both in the same pouch as the USB receiver. Do not store them under a stack of books; you do not need to “break them in.”
